What are the best and worst things about being a Realtor?

February 152010

I am researching what it takes to be a realtor, and need to know what the pros and cons are. Can you please give me some advice on what the eaiest and hardest parts of selling realestate can be that you’ve experienced? Thanks a bunch :)

Realtors work on commission. Before making a sale you will need to spend your time and effort gathering listings (properties to sell) and then gas to show those properties. There could also be an investment in real estate signs with your name as the contact. Another down side is the time it can take to make a sale. It can take weeks or months to make a sale from listing or first showing until you close. You won’t be paid until the sale is closed. The up side is that you are selling a big ticket item and since you work on commission the checks should be larger than many other types of sales. There are also opportunities to purchase real estate for yourself. Some realtors have done very well for themselves. Others have not. If you are highly motivated and don’t discourage easily then you could do well.
