I’m guessing that most of those who said only Nirvana is good out of your list have obviously never listened to Gary Hoey or been to a show. For a three man group, they blew the place away.

Hoey used to sit outside the Berkley School of Music offering to pay for lessons from other students. He couldn’t afford to go to school there but could afford to pay for lessons from students who weren’t rock stars either. It paid off.

He flew to LA to audition for Ozzy when Jake E. Lee left the band. Zack Wylde ended up getting the job but Ozzy was apparently rather impressed with Hoey.

Eventually Hoey earned his notoriety. He never gave up. He’s not a household name yet but his show was sold out as most are and he’s got a huge following. People who listen to him love him.

So, don’t give up. Don’t do it to become a star but instead do it because it’s something you want to do. If you’re meant to be a star, it will happen.

Yes, the Nickleback song "Rock Star" tells the story that many of us would do to get the life of the rock star and it’s a great tune at that, but it’s not reality. Reality is: you’ll never get there if you don’t try. I want to be a rock star, but I have to work and support my family. I play music when the time allows, therefore… I’ll never be a rock star. So, now you know what NOT to do.

You seem really determined..and that’s the start. It’s not talent that makes a star, it’s the determination and drive they have. I don’t know how many groupies you’d get if you’re doing JoBlows covers, but if that’s the music you like, it’s whatever makes you happy. I don’t know much about Indian culture, but while you’re there, why not check out the music scene? Concerts, coffee shops, you’d be surprised what you can find. As much as you wanna be back here, you have a great chance to learn alot over there.
As for lyrics, it’s not a thing you get over night. It takes time. Don’t dwell on what you don’t have right now babe, work with it. Start out brainstorming just thoughts. Things that piss you off, things that make you happy, anything you want. It’s very freeing.
It sounds like you like some grunge. Try taking a listen to The Foo Fighters. That’s Nirvana’s drummer’s band. Anyways, the best advice I can give you is to not give up, and you seem to already have that mentality down.

I agree with that! Only Nirvana truly rocks in the set of artists you named. Jonas Brothers? Whoa! They don’t rock, they suck! Big time!

So, I think I knew what you mean when you say "rockstar". For music like from the bands and artists you mentioned, honestly, you don’t even need to be talented to become a "rockstar". Once you’ve got your guitars, it won’t take 6 months before you will be able to play Nirvana and Linkin Park songs; and roughly a week for Jonas Brothers songs.

I highly recommend listening to different types of music first and widen your music taste. You’ve actually explored the world of rock music roughly about 0.1% only. If you really like rock, start listening to bands like AC/DC, The White Stripes, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc. (good start bands). Stay away from what you always hear from the radio and Top 40′s.

Listen to different kinds of music. Don’t stop practicing. Self-teaching is okay, but having someone to teach you playing the guitar is a lot better. I don’t recommend using tablatures as they spoil your ears.

Nirvana is the only decent one on that list.
get better taste in music (just start a whole new topic for our suggestions)
for Rock guitar you need an Amp
also you need to be creative when writing songs and write about your experience
