I am looking to rent a house on Long Island, but don’t want to have a real estate person involved and have to pay fees and deal with them. I am looking to rent directly from an owner. Where can I search to find this type of rental?

The odds of you finding one are close to zero. You will need an agent, even those in craigslist and the papers will be using agents.

   idk if you can just drive around and look for a sign that says for sale by owner i recommend you use a agent because people usually think there home is worth too much if you change you mind use http://www.realtor.com/

   Online? Almost impossible unless you come across a legit Craigs listing.

   Find out what the local newspapers are in Long Island and get a copy either online or through the normal channels.

   In other words: go over the classified section of a local newspaper.
